Vision to implementation for Symphony Industrial
Symphony Industrial ai sought out to offer industrial analytics and monitoring, and was at an early stage of design looking to develop their product. We worked with subject matter experts to understand the domain, plan our and build an application to better meet the needs of factory workers and foreman while engaging in design research, cross collaborative product work, and rapid UI development
SETTING THE FOUNDATIONS
In the early stages of the project, there were a number of core team members who saw the vision and had some ideas where they wanted to take things. Based on existing tech functionality and their concepts, we whiteboarded the experience together and found a place to start design. We found the asset management flow to be a key set of screens that would help us to build out the foundation.

Asset management flow initially whiteboarded over a group video call and iterated on in person and over sketches. Sketches were turned into low fidelity UI

STRUCTURING THE INTERFACE
After defining the flow of pages and primary moving pieces, we began working with data visualizations and finding the best ones to fit our needs, exploring how to visually explain to users what was going on with each asset. These screens came together for a product demo that was presented to stakeholders and external teams for feedback.
PIVOTING WHERE NECESSARY
Product and subject matter experts came back with a great deal of good advice and feedback. Some of the biggest changes, were moving the UI from dark theme, to light for readability and brand alignment, as well as illustrating a custom icon set to map to common factory components.

In conclusion
Building a complex application from the ground up with a large team and shifting priorities is always a challenge, but doing so with the team at Symphony AI was an absolute pleasure, as the team leads were extremely knowledgeable, and we were given ample 1:1 time direct with subject matter experts to give open and candid feedback on the app, practicality of use cases and overall application to the field. This made for a great experience in understanding the space and developing the idea.
The app was developed to an initial stage where it required further testing in industrial settings in order to vette core use cases, concluding our role in the design and development of the initial product.
